First, let Tracy enjoy episode 599.

Six hundred is coming next week, and Tracy is ready to celebrate now. She stops Tego after he says the episode number a little too quickly for her liking. The earrings are on. The occasion deserves its moment. Anyone who enjoys their back-and-forth will want to start right here.

Before long, they’re admiring the 2026 Balloon Fiesta print by Travis Bruce Black. Tego says it’s a favorite. Tracy reminds him that he says that about the new poster every year. With every annual print since 1979 in their office collection, they’ve had plenty of chances to have that conversation.

Before the microphones

A newspaper ad. A family business. A mudroom.

To see how we got here, rewind to another milestone: episode 500. Tracy and Tego settle into the story of their early years, long before a weekly show was part of the routine.

Tracy had worked as a college recruiter for Intel and had young children at home when a Sunday newspaper ad caught her eye. San Pedro Creek Estates needed someone to sell land. She already knew that stretch of the East Mountains from family visits—the arroyos, the walks, the landscape. So she picked up the phone.

That call led to land sales, then residential real estate. Tego got his license in 2007 and took on the signs, photography, marketing and website. By 2009, they were making room for a growing business at the back of their house. Their name for the office? The executive mudroom. It’s hard to improve on that.

On the air since 2013

It started on your radio dial.

If you remember hearing Tracy and Tego on your car radio on a Saturday morning, you remember right. The weekly show began in 2013 on 1600 AM KIVA. They’d been doing paid commercials when Eddie Aragon invited them to do a Saturday-morning show. In 599, they look back on that long KIVA run and other radio memories, including visits with Scott Stigler at 770 KKOB.

You can watch radio and video meet in episode 347, from December 19, 2020. There’s a virtual fireplace behind Tracy and Tego, stockings included, and Eddie appears in a little window from the radio studio. Tego explains that they’ve started putting useful pieces of the show on YouTube and the website. He has a pretty good description of what’s worth saving:

He’s talking about moments like Tracy explaining how to buy and sell a home at the same time. You might hear that conversation one Saturday and not need it until months later.
