Zillow Group is online media company that focuses on Residential Real Estate. The Zillow Group owns and operates Zillow.com and Trula.com, both provide consumers housing information and advertisements of homes for sale. Aside from properties for sale and for rent, they publish data on over 110 million homes across the US. Most of the data on unlisted properties comes from public records from city and county clerks.
Zillow also publishes a directory of Real Estate Agents including consumer reviews of real estate agents. Zillow Agent reviews are similar to other review sites like Yelp and Angie’s List but the focus on Real Estate Agents and Mortgage Lenders.
One of the things Zillow is known for is the Zestimate. A Zestimate is a home value estimate derived using a priority algorithm (mathematical formula). The Zestimate can be controversial when used as the end word on a home’s value. Zillow recommends that the Zestimate should only be used as a starting point and “We encourage buyers, sellers, and homeowners to supplement Zillow’s information by doing other research such as: Getting a comparative market analysis (CMA) from a real estate agent, Getting an appraisal from a professional appraiser.”
