Description
Supplements: From Seller: The front of the house (about 600 sq ft) is a square adobe built in the 1920s by its owner. A subsequent owner in the 1990s added a wood frame extension that includes a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and family room. The entire house is very comfortably heated by three mini-splits. Additional heat is available from the kiva fireplace in the kitchen. The family room, which is heated by a mini-split, also collects passive solar heat. The bathroom is warmed by electric radiant floor heat. The kitchen stove is gas-fueled, as is the tankless water heater. The house is connected to the electrical grid (CNMEC) but energy is generated by 20 solar panels on the roof, which covers most electrical costs. The roof functions as a water collector. The new gutters feed rainwater into a pair of underground tanks (several thousands of gallons). The water is drawn up by a pump, feeding a faucet that is used for irrigation of several yards and gardens. Along the alley lies an adobe building, also built in the 1920s. That building was renovated into a living space, heated by electro-thermal storage and a wood stove, and featuring insulation, new windows and floors, and a bathroom (with radiant floor heat). Interior walls have been recently restored with authentic mud plaster. Water is heated by an electric water heater. Attached to this building is a barn from the 1920s, which may have functioned a garage. Between the house and the casita is a straw-bale construction building that functions as a workshop and laundry, heated by a wood stove. The laundry area has a small, tankless electric water heater, and the dryer is gas fueled. Surrounding the western end of the property is a straw-bale construction wall. All stucco surfaces have been re-stuccoed in the last three years. There are three mature apple trees that are very productive. There is an apricot tree and a cherry tree, both mature, that rarely produce because of spring frosts and winds. There is a mature Li Jujube tree, which produces Asian dates. The north side yard features a variety of maturing native plants and grasses, and the patio between the buildings features many flowering native plants.
